POCO F1: A Rising Star in the 20k Smartphone Galaxy

With the mobile gaming community in focus, Xiaomi recently launched the POCO F1 in the 20k category with impressive top-end specifications and a compelling price tag. The POCO F1 competes against mid-range smartphones such as Asus Zenfone 5Z, Honor 10 and OnePlus6. It is a special ‘armoured’ edition with a Kevlar body.

For the first time, a phone maker has introduced official skins for which generally, the buyers usually turn to companies like Dbrand. There are some great options to choose from such as camouflage, mahogany, all at an affordable price of INR 299. Also, there’s an official ultra-slim case with matte-finish for INR 399 for those who love to flaunt stylish phones.

Let’s take a look at its features which make it a rising star in the 20k range:

Qualcomm Snapdragon 845

The POCO F1 is one of the least expensive phones to be powered by the Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon 845 chipset. It comes with up to 8GB ram and 256 GB of expandable internal storage. The Adreno 630 GPU is an added advantage to the benefits of its CPU.

The POCO F1 boasts of an impressive storage for its price range. It comes with UFS 2.1 storage which means faster data transfer and an overall lag-free performance. It also offers up to 8GB LPDDR4X RAM and a hybrid microSD card slot.

Liquid Cooling

Since this offering from Xiaomi is targeted at the mobile gamers who desire a high-performance device with a powerful hardware, it comes with liquid-cooled thermals which ensure that the device doesn’t heat up during long and resource intensive sessions. It is essentially a copper heat sync with some water vapour inside which is placed on the top of the chipset. The polycarbonate shell further supports this by being better at usability and handling heat than other materials like metal and glass. Xiamoi claims that POCO F1 offers a better gaming performance even for heavy games such as Arena of Valor than Apple’s iPhone X.

Xiaomi is popular for producing smartphones with long battery life and POCO F1 lives up to this legacy. It is backed by powerful 4,000 mAh battery along with support for Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 3.0. Xiaomi promises up to 30 hours of calling and 146 hours of audio playback with a single charge.

Dual Smart Speakers

The earpiece of the POCO F1 doubles up as a speaker so that the users can enjoy a dual speaker effect.  It uses a dual smart power amplifier technology to offer a really loud audio without any type of disturbances. It also supports direct HD sound.

4G+ network pan India

It is one of the first smartphones to support 4G+ networks in India. It promises up to 275% faster data throughput with 4G+ and also supports dual VoLTE.

With a 6.18 inch LCD display, the POCO F1 features a resolution of 1080×2246 pixels with brilliant colours. The contrast and saturation levels are similar to those of Note 9. The viewing angles are fairly good and the display is sharp enough for the price tag. Some may find its unusually large and curved edges to be an issue as they do eat into space while watching videos or playing games.

You can also tweak the white balance in the display settings for reading purposes and Xiaomi also offers a reading mode. This new entrant seems a catch in the under 20k price category especially for those who love watching videos and playing games.

The lacklustreoleo phobic coating does make the cleaning process a bit of a challenge. It does not come with the always-on display functionality, however, you can double tap the screen to wake it up or use the raise-to-wake option.
